Yvette Gilfoyle; Resource Teacher

My name is Yvette Gilfoyle and I am thrilled to be working with students through Math Plus Tutors.  I have had an illustrious career in education having worked in the field for over 28 years. I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo and finished with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.  I continued to pursue many other professional development opportunities and have my Special Education Specialist. While teaching both in Oakville and in Sarnia I have had a variety of experiences and opportunities from teaching in the classroom, being a specialist in Math, Science and Physical and Health Education, and working as a Learning Resource Teacher.  I continued to pursue leadership opportunities working on various board level committees in reading and differentiated instruction and finished my career as an elementary school principal. My philosophy is that all students have the potential to success when their learning styles and skills are addressed – no two students are alike. I have a vested interest in student wellbeing and have been actively involved with the CMHA starting the student Ride Don’t Hide event to promote mental health and helping to end the stigma. At Math Plus Tutors; I will be working with students with special-needs, as well as students needing help with math and/or science. Photo (2)

Beth Duchesne; Resource Tutor

Welcome to Math Plus Tutors! My name is Beth Duchesne and I would like to share with you my background in special education, a dynamic field that I have been privileged to be a part of for the past twenty eight years.  I have received certification through both the Geneva Centre for Autism and the W.Ross McDonald School for the Deaf and Blind, and have obtained a B.A. in Psychology (with distinction) from the University of Windsor. My twenty eight years of working with students struggling with learning, behavioural or developmental difficulties have taught me to recognize each child as their own specialist in learning. I believe in taking a holistic approach to tutoring – it is solely by respecting each child’s unique approach to learning that educational goals can be attained. I love working with students looking to build their reading/writing and math skills from both grade school and high school. Planning lessons, integrating games and activities plus searching for resources to better serve my students is my forte. I look forward to helping your child in the near future. Photo (3)
